Progress in improving the natural environment in England 2024/2025

Government remains off track to meet its environmental commitments and its actions now will determine whether or not key targets for biodiversity and the protection of land and sea by 2030 will be met, says our latest report on progress in improving the natural environment in England.

This is our fourth statutory report on government’s progress in delivering its Environmental Improvement Plan (EIP), our assessment of progress covers the annual reporting period of April 2024 to March 2025.

Alongside the report we have also published:

  • Methodological Statement
  • Statement of Compliance with the UK Code of Practice for Statistics
  • Briefing note on our initial assessment of EIP25
